Major agribusiness added to Millikin’s offerings | Community

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Millikin University has announced it will add an agribusiness major to its Camp School of Business. The Bachelor of Science program, which will begin in the fall semester of 2023, will focus on business fundamentals and their relationship to the agricultural industry.

R. J. Podeski, dean of the Tabor School of Business, attributed the sharp increase in demand for agribusiness candidates to a significant increase in the number of outside farm managers.

“I think this program is a great fit for Millikin and Tabor,” Padesky said. “We are seeing more students become interested in agriculture as a result of quality programs through Future Farmers of America (FFA) and other initiatives at the middle and high school levels. Millikin Performance Learning’s approach to education fits agribusiness in a very specific way.”

Through a partnership with Richland College, Millikin offers a 2+2 program agreement for students who graduate from Richland’s agriculture program with an Associate of Arts degree.

“Richland Community College is pleased to partner with Millikin in developing a transfer agreement, allowing Richland agriculture students who have earned an Associate of Arts degree to seamlessly transition into Millikin’s new agribusiness program,” commented Andy Hinds, dean of mathematics, Science and business in Richland.

Of the 285 colleges in Illinois, only 32 offer agricultural programs.
