Judge blocks Penguin Random House’s merger with Simon & Schuster – deadline

Federal judge rules in favor of Justice Department in its bid to block Penguin Random House’s merger with Simon & Schuster

“Defendants are enjoined from consummating the proposed merger or otherwise combining Penguin Random House, LLC and Simon & Schuster, Inc.,” Judge Florence Penn wrote in a court filing issued Monday evening.

Peng’s full opinion has yet to be published, but she wrote that she found that “the United States has shown that “the effect [the proposed merger] could significantly reduce competition in the US publishing rights market for anticipated best-selling books.”

The full opinion will be released when the two sides meet to discuss the proposed revisions.
